Middle and High School Basketball Drills and Thrills
Monday, June 9 through Saturday, June 14, 2008
Middle school and high school girls and boys are invited to participate in an in depth experience in basketball to prepare them for possible participation on their home school's basketball team. Deaf and hard of hearing students entering grades 7-12 are welcome. Experienced and proven coaches will work with students during morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Students will develop body strength in OSD's new fitness center, learn the rules of basketball, practice foul shooting, apply offensive and defensive strategies, and relate the principles of sportsmanship. Students will practice lay-up shots, passing the ball, ball handling, running, and standard basketball plays.
Students should be prepared for intensive physical activity; however, recreational activities will also be scheduled for students so that students may have fun with new friends from across the state. Parents will want to attend the awards ceremony on the last afternoon, Saturday, to encourage all students to continue in their basketball pursuits after camp.
Application deadline: May 9, 2008 (download application)
Registration fee: $25.00
Camp Accommodations: Students will stay in fan-cooled dormitories and eat in the cafeteria. Dormitories are supervised by experienced youth leaders following established expectations for student care. Students will have access to TTY and video-phone service and captioned television. Students should be prepared to cooperate with others, take care of their own things, and use safety and appropriate decision making.
OSD's camps are supported by a grant from the Ohio Department of Education and by the Ohio School for the Deaf.
Registration: Deadlines for registration cannot be extended because we need to have enough time to hire sufficient staff for all students, arrange for accommodations that might be necessary, and communicate details to families.
There are no other fees for this camp.
The registration fee needs to accompany the student's application form. (Registration fees may be waived for families who can document living within the poverty range guidelines.)
Parents may print off a blank application from the website, fill it out, and send it along with the registration fee to:
